The Basic Format

Baller League UK is a six-a-side football competition played in a purpose-built indoor arena. Each team fields six players at a time — five outfield players and one goalkeeper. Matches last 30 minutes, played as two 15-minute halves with no half-time break.

Team Structure

  • 6 players on the pitch per team at any one time
  • Rolling substitutions — teams can make unlimited substitutions during play
  • Each team is managed by a celebrity or influencer manager who picks the starting lineup and tactics
  • Teams can include professional footballers, semi-pros, and select influencer players

Key Rule Differences

Baller League UK deliberately removes several traditional football rules to increase goals, action, and entertainment. Here's what's different:

REMOVED

❌ No Corner Kicks

Traditional corner kicks are replaced by direct penalty kicks. Whenever the ball goes out for what would have been a corner, the attacking team is awarded a direct penalty instead.

INCLUDED

✅ Offside Rule (except during Onside GC)

Offside rules apply throughout normal play. The only exception is when the Onside Game Changer is activated at the 12th minute — during that period, all offside rules are suspended and players can position anywhere.

INCLUDED

✅ Penalty Shootouts

If a match is level after 30 minutes, the result goes straight to a penalty shootout to determine the winner. Drawn results are not possible in the final standings.

INCLUDED

✅ Golden Goal Option

In some match formats, teams can enter an overtime period where the first team to score wins the match instantly — the classic golden goal rule.

The Signature Rule

Game Changers

Twice per match — at the 12th minute (1st half) and 27th minute (2nd half) — a random Game Changer is activated, temporarily rewriting the rules. Each half has three possible Game Changers, drawn randomly before the match.

1st Half — Activated at 12'

01

🏃 Onside

All offside rules are suspended. Attacking players can position themselves freely anywhere on the pitch — creating chaos and opening up the game.

02

➕ Plus One

The game restarts as a 1v1 (plus goalkeepers). After each goal, both teams add one outfield player, building back up to full 5v5 play. Every goal changes the match state.

03

⏱️ 3Play

Teams shrink to 3-a-side (including goalkeeper). A 30-second shot clock forces rapid attacks — lose the ball or let the clock expire and it's a turnover. Fast, fierce, relentless.

2nd Half — Activated at 27'

04

⚔️ 1-on-1

The game becomes a one-on-one duel. Each player stays in their own half with a 15-second shot clock per possession — pure skill, no hiding.

05

📏 The Line

Goals scored from in front of the offside line count double. Rewards precision and long-range brilliance — every shot from distance becomes a game-changer.

06

🟥 Fairplay

Any foul, handball, or dissent = immediate send-off with no replacement. Finish the match with whoever is left standing — discipline or disaster.

⚡ Why it matters: A team with a lethal striker might pray for 1-on-1. A disciplined side wants Fairplay. The draw before each match can make or break a gameweek. See our Gamechanger Analysis to discover which types produce the most goals.

Season Format

Regular Season (11 Gameweeks)

All 12 teams compete over 11 gameweeks. Each gameweek features multiple matches. Points are awarded as follows:

  • Win: 3 points
  • Draw (after 90 min, before penalty shootout): 1 point each
  • Penalty Shootout Win: 1 additional bonus point for the winner
  • Loss: 0 points

Final Four Playoffs

At the end of the regular season, the top 4 teams qualify for the Final Four — a knockout tournament to decide the Baller League UK champion.

  • Semi-final 1: 1st vs 4th place
  • Semi-final 2: 2nd vs 3rd place
  • Grand Final: Two semi-final winners meet in the championship match

The Game Changer rule applies in all playoff matches.

Managers & Team Ownership

Each Baller League UK team is led by a celebrity manager — a recognisable face from football, entertainment, or social media. Managers are responsible for:

  • Picking the starting lineup for each gameweek
  • Deciding tactics and substitutions during matches
  • Signing and releasing players during transfer windows
  • Representing the team in pre and post-match interviews

Some teams also have an owner or president (such as KSI at Yanited) who sits above the manager and makes high-level decisions including player recruitment.
